Murder Charges May be Brought against Drunk Driver Accused of Killing Bicyclist

Less than two weeks ago a cyclist was killed in Santa Clarita near Los Angeles when a drunk driver swerved from his lane of traffic into him and two other friends riding their bikes. The driver of the truck was 20 years old and drove away after hitting the 49-year old cyclist, leaving him for dead. The other two bicyclists were able to avoid being hit by the truck, but received serious injuries when they swerved into an embankment in order to avoid the truck. The third man was not so lucky. He was thrown from his bicycle and incurred such serious injuries that he was not even able to make it to the hospital for treatment. He was declared dead at the scene by police and medical staff.

The three bicyclists were members of the Santa Clarita Velo club. Club members frequently bike together, but are now concerned about how safe it really is to bike on roads in California. This is the third death of a member that the group has incurred due to bicycle accidents. All three bicycle accidents occurred when the cyclists were hit by oncoming cars, two of which were driven by drunk drivers. The group is conducting a serious reevaluation of its normal bicycle routes because of the reckless and negligent behavior of many drivers in the area and because of all three deaths, particularly the most recent.

Bicyclist accidents were becoming such a prevalent problem in Louisiana that the state recently passed a law requiring vehicles to remain at least three feet away from bike riders on the road at all times. So many cyclist accidents occur because drivers simple come to close to bicyclists. When driving so close to a bicyclist, any small amount of overcorrection or any type of distraction can potentially cause an accident in which a bicyclist will undoubtedly be injured and likely be killed. The law in Louisiana also fines those motorists that harass bicyclists on the road, especially if items are thrown at bicyclists that could cause an accident for them.

This law perhaps comes too late, and in the wrong state, for the most recent bicyclist that just died at the hands of this drunk driver. Had the drunk driver kept his distance from the cyclist and his friends, the man would have been able to continue to live a full life. If you have a loved one who has been killed in a bicycle accident such as this, you should seek the help of a Los Angeles auto accident attorney as soon as possible. Los Angeles Personal injury lawyers handle many bicycle accident cases annually, especially in states like Washington and California where bicycling is a popular pastime and an ideal and traffic-free way for one to get to work. Yet with so many bicyclists being injured and killed by motorists each year, it’s important for you to know where to turn for help in court in case tragedy strikes your family or friends.

Young Boy Dead After Los Angeles Prescription Drug Crash

Unfortunately, there was an accident that occurred only 2 weeks ago where an 11 year old boy lost his life in a car accident following major injuries in Thousand Oaks near Los Angeles.  The driver of the vehicle holding the young boy was his aunt and she was under the influence of prescription drugs.  The fact that this involved family makes it even more terrible for everyone involved.  The boys aunt was under the influence of prescription pain killers that she had taken early in the morning.  The aunt pulled out in front of an oncoming vehicle after stopping at a stop sign in an intersection.  She did not pay attention to the large oncoming truck that had the right of way.  The trucks driver wasn’t able to come to a stop or avoid the vehicle at the last minute and unfortunately struck the SUV at a high rate of speed.  The boy incurred major personal injuries and was airlifted to a hospital where he shortly thereafter lost his precious life.

This terrible accident occured on a major holiday (4th of July) and it is a very unfortunate circumstance.  After the young boy was flown to a close hospital, he was then quickly moved to the Childrens Hospital in Los Angeles and lost his life approximately 24 hours after the collision occured.  This is a good lesson for anyone that is currently on pain medicine or any other medications that can inhibit your driving abilities. You may seem and feel completely in control, but the fact is that if you accidently were involved in an accident involving a death, you could face murder charges or major penalties. Someone should contact a Los Angeles wrongful death attorney to help in this case in order to help the parents of the child pay for expenses and damages.

There was another boy in the pickup truck that struck the SUV, but thankfully he only sustained some minjor injuries and survived.  The pickup truck driver and another passenger were not injured in this crash and they will be fine.  The aunt that was driving the SUV incurred minimal injuries and was arrested almost immediately following the accident on suspicions that she could be under influence of some substance which turned out to be prescription drugs.

If you have been involved in a car accident that could have been prevented because of someones driving negligence or because they are under the influence of a substance, make sure you contact a Los Angeles personal injury lawyer so that you can get assistance in recovering damages.  A personal injury attorney can give you an excellent understanding of your rights and protections in situations like this.

Dangerous Road Conditions Cause Over Half of All Auto Accident Deaths

dangerous-roadIt is a well-known fact that automobile accidents cause more deaths and injuries than almost every other type of accident that occurs here in the United States. In fact, over 42,000 people die each year in automobile accidents with many, many more suffering from minimal to severe injuries. Recently published in the Washington Post was an estimate that over 22,000 of these deaths from automobile accidents occur because of dangerous road conditions. There are more deaths caused by dangerous road conditions than there are caused by driving under the influence of alcohol, speeding excessively, and even neglecting to wear a seatbelt.

Dangerous road conditions can include a number of things. Hazardous highways are one of the leading causes of auto accidents, leading to injuries and fatalities on the road. One of the reasons for this is because these roads often don’t see as much maintenance and care as they probably should. With traffic going nonstop on many highways and freeways throughout the state of California and the rest of the nation, it is no surprise that these roadways can become hazardous. Throughout the state there has been an outcry from auto accident victims and their loved ones for wider roads with shoulders and more accessible exits in order to decrease the number of accidents that occur. There has also been countless requests for more frequent road maintenance that would more quickly eliminate potholes, repaint fading lane lines, replace missing road signs, and clear debris that gathers on roadways and often causes collisions.

Automobile accidents that are caused by dangerous roadways are not only costing those who are involved. These accidents are actually costing the entire economy billions of dollars each year. For one year alone, the average cost to the economy for accidents that occurred on dangerous roadways reached nearly $218 billion dollars. In comparison, it costs approximately $97 billion for speeding-related accidents and $130 billion for drunk driving accidents. These costs are comprised mostly of medical bills and payouts from insurance companies.

Luckily for many across the country, state governments have already begun to receive stimulus money from the federal government for infrastructure spending. Many states have already started making plans to use the stimulus money to repair a much of the damage and wear and tear that is causing roadways to become more and more dangerous for motorists every day. This stimulus money will likely make a drastic difference in the number of accidents that occur on roadways every year, particularly in the state of California.

If you’ve been injured in automobile accident that was the result of dangerous road conditions, you should contact a personal injury attorney as soon as you can to discuss your claim. Many victims choose to seek help from personal injury attorneys because they have a far better chance of receiving the compensation they need to cover their medical bill and other costs that are created from automobile accidents. Los Angeles Personal injury attorneys are experienced in dealing with Los Angeles automobile accident claims and are often able to recover thousands of dollars in compensation for their clients.

Lawsuit Loans – What They Are and How They Work

Have you heard the term ‘lawsuit loans’?  While the term is really a little misleading, it is an option that actually benefits many people who are considering filing a lawsuit.  If money is a problem that is hindering you from getting the settlement you want, you may want to consider litigation financing.

Lawsuit loans are not actually loans.  They are more of a cash advance that is given determined upon the amount you expect to win in your settlement.  Unlike conventional loans you get at a bank, there are no special requirements to meet and no credit check history reports or past employment information to worry about.

Frequently a litigant must settle for less than they deserve when involved in a lawsuit because they simply do not have the financial resources to continue their case.  Money may be tight due to the economy; they may be facing foreclosure or other obligations.  Getting a loan from a bank is not even an option, because they cannot afford another monthly bill.

Litigation financing offers the opportunity for you to get the money you need right away.  This money can be used for medical costs, monthly household bills and even attorney fees.  It helps you sustain a normal life without additional money worries while you see your case through to the end.  Lawsuit loans are the answer for many people in pursuit of justice.  Many companies are online, and have a quick questionnaire you can fill out, or you may decide to call so that you can learn more about the process before making a decision.

The entire process is quick and easy.  Your attorney will submit the documentation on your case to a settlement funding company.  Once they review the information, you should know the same day whether you are approved.  If so, you will have your money the very next day.  A signature from you and your attorney is basically all that is required!

While lawsuit loans are not for everyone, they are definitely an option you may want to consider.  You only repay the advance back when you do win your settlement.  If you do not win your case, you owe nothing, there is no recourse.  Speak with your attorney if you believe that litigation financing may benefit you in your pursuit of justice.

SEO And Internet Marketing For Lawyer & Attorney Services Propel You to The Top

If you have online lawyer or attorney services, no doubt you have researched a few different SEO and internet marketing firms to help increase visibility and ranking for your business.  The problem is, how do you know who to trust?  Choosing a law firm marketing agency to propel your law firm to the top can be a difficult task.

When you do a search for SEO and internet marketing firms for attorney and lawyer services, you may be overwhelmed with the results.  While there are hundreds of thousands of companies that claim to be experts, you want to know without a doubt that the services you receive will be well worth the investment you are going to make.

The truth is, many firms will claim to be experts, but most simply follow the trends of other companies.  Many use the next “new thing” or technology that comes along.  For years, there have been certain strategies that have always been very successful, and always will be.  This is what counts when it comes to marketing your business successfully.  Being highly ranked organically is what you want, because most people who search for your services will only browse page one.

Unfortunately, many lawyer and attorney services hire two or three SEO and internet marketing firms before they find a professional team who can really do what they claim.  This is a huge waste of money, and it does make you very leery of any other companies as well.  So, how can you avoid spending even more money on firms that provide little to no results?

Look at their company website in depth.  Also, look at what they have done for their own business.  Do they rank highly for their own services?  Are there legitimate client testimonials on site?  Also, anyone who is confident in the services they offer will gladly offer to let you contact their other clients, so that you can get a feel for the quality of service they offer.  Professionals who are experts in the search engines and internet marketing industries do not need to hide behind false claims.

If your lawyer or attorney services are not highly visible and you feel that you need more targeted traffic, don’t waste your money on yet another “expert” who cannot provide you with proven results.  Contact a reputable and highly skilled SEO and internet marketing firm – the results will speak for themselves.

DF Legal News : Ventura Motor Vehicle Accident Case To Begin

If you’ve been injured in an accident that involved a drunk driver, don’t hesitate to contact a Los Angeles Motor Vehicle Accident attorney. Your Ventura auto accident lawyer will be able to determine who is to blame for the accident and to whom you can expect to receive financial compensation for the injuries you incurred in the accident.

A few years back, there was a terrible motor vehicle accident that took place in Ventura County outside of Los Angeles that ended in the death of one man and injury of another.  In October 2006, there were 4 restaurant employees that choose to drink after the restaurant had been closed in the establishment after their shift was completed. After these drinks were being served, there was one man that was said to be very intoxicated and didn’t seem to have the coherency to drive his motor vehicle.  Thankfully, one of his coworkers took the liberty of driving the man home in his vehicle, also driving the other two men as passengers.

The intent of this coworker was to drive everyone home safely and then return the vehicle to its owner the following morning. Unfortunately the vehicles owner wasn’t happy with their decision. The owner thought that his vehicle was being stolen so he rushed to his automobile as the other three men got back in it to leave. The vehicle owner began a fight with his coworker who was at the wheel. This coworker, with the help of the other two, was able to overcome the owner of the vehicle, leaving him at home with his car. Rather than risk more problems by taking the vehicle, the three decided instead to simply walk back to their respective homes.

The owner of the car had other plans, however. He jumped into his vehicle while still under the influence of alcohol and followed his coworkers down the street. Two of the three were unable to get away from the coming vehicle in time and were hit intentionally. Unfortunately one died almost instantly while the other sustained serious injuries. The vehicle’s owner that was angry did not sustain any injuries.

According to defense attorneys, the vevicle owner experienced a temporary blackout or loss of complete consciousness as a result of the fight he had with his coworker outside his home. The defendant’s lawyers claim that he continued in this unconscious, blackout phase as he climbed into his vehicle and ran down his coworkers. In contrast to this claim, the injured coworker and the coworker that was not hit by the vehicle claim that the driver appeared to be fully functional and aware of his doings. If the jury decides to side with the plaintiffs, the driver of the vehicle could face murder charges and spend years in prison.

Although it is still unclear just how aware the drunk driver was of his actions, it has been made perfectly clear again and again that drunk driving often leads to severe injuries and death. Alcohol and drugs have the ability to impair a person’s judgment, response time, and coordination, especially when that person is behind the wheel of a car.  Although this drunk driver is currently facing criminal charges alone, it is not unlikely that he will soon be facing civil charges filed by a personal injury attorney as well.

Hit And Run Driver Is Sentenced To 15 Years Behind Bars

In February of this year, a tragic hit and run accident occurred in Cathedral City, California near Los Angeles.  An 18-year old woman who was pregnant with her first child was viciously hit by a driver who, following the accident, fled from the scene of the crime. The woman who hit her has now been sentenced to spend the next 15 years in a state prison for gross vehicular manslaughter. In addition, the woman also plead guilty to driving her vehicle that day under the influence of both drugs and alcohol. She has been charged with driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol previously, nearly thirteen years before she caused the death of this soon-to-be mother.

The family members of the victim are glad to see that justice is being served to a certain extent, but are still not satisfied with the result of the trial. They feel that the court took into account the death of the young woman, but not the death of her unborn child. Her baby, who was only a week away from being delivered into his mother’s arms, was never allowed a chance at life because of the negligence and reckless behavior of the motorist that killed this pregnant woman. In addition to taking the life of this young woman and snuffing out the potential life of her unborn child, the motorist fled from the scene of the crime with no apparent intention of confessing her part in the accident. As the details of the case unfold, it is clear to see why the victim’s family is not satisfied with a mere 15-year sentence in state prison.

Wrongful death claims are complex because of the many details typically involved in the fatal accident. In this case, for example, the motorist who killed the woman and her unborn child is the wife of someone who works in the office of the District Attorney. According to some speculation, the woman has received a break because of her husband’s powerful connections. This possibility is understandably unfair to the family members of the victim who have lost a daughter and a soon-to-be grandchild. They will never again enjoy the company and love of their child, nor the wonderful memories that could have been created over a lifetime with her baby.

If you have a family member who was a victim of wrongful death, don’t hesitate to contact a Los Angeles personal injury attorney. Because the court proceedings for wrongful death claims are often complex, you should seek the counsel of one of these lawyers in order to increase your chances for compensation. Although monetary compensation cannot bring a loved one back from the dead, it can help you and your family cover expensive medical costs that could have been incurred before their passing, as well as the expensive funeral costs that came without notice or warning. You don’t have to handle these expenses on your own, especially if the responsibility for the death of your loved one belongs to another party.
